Hello

My name is Josiah Lawson and I'm a class of 2024 basketball player at Tucker High School in Tucker, Georgia. The game of basketball has taught me many things in life. Among them is the importance of having a plan, being consistent, being faithful despite circumstances, and staying level throughout.  I sum these up in the phrase "Chop Wood".  That's a way to positively affect others and bring light to the world..

My Story

I was born in Atlanta, Georgia and raised in the suburbs of the Stone Mountain area.  I started my basketball journey at the age of three with my then five year old brother, Asaad Lawson.  My dad coached us in recreation and AAU basketball with an organization called the Atlanta Select for 10 years.  During that time, I learned the fundamentals of basketball and basketball systems ranging from motion offenses, the Princeton Offense, the Triangle Offense, Read and React, etc., along with many defensive schemes and principles.  I played my high school AAU basketball on the Adidas 3ssb circuit with AE5, and the Hunchos.  I started my high school varsity career as a freshman at Druid Hills High School and transferred to Tucker High School following my freshman season after it was cancelled after only four games due to the pandemic.  I have always been a highly sought-after player in the Georgia area; however, after my sophomore year at Tucker and leading the county in several statistical categories including scoring, i found myself in the conversation with Georgia's best.  I attribute my success to my faith in God and my family.  My belief informs me that faith without works is dead.  My parents, grandparents and siblings model hard work and champion the process of work and aspiration over pure ambition and outcomes.
